Cloud infrastructure is mainstream: a practical guide to Compute and Object Storage

A client's website, application and backup archive do not always belong on the same product. Understanding the difference between managed web hosting, a Compute instance and Object Storage makes a reseller's recommendation more useful and easier to support.

The industry signal

Published on 20 January 2026, the CNCF Annual Cloud Native Survey reports that 82% of container users in its research run Kubernetes in production. That is a finding about the surveyed container-using population, not 82% of all companies and not a claim that every small business needs Kubernetes.

Our interpretation: cloud infrastructure has matured into a normal operational choice, while the right starting point for an individual client may still be a small server or straightforward cPanel hosting.

Compute runs the application; storage holds the data

A Compute instance supplies the operating-system environment for applications and tools. Object Storage provides a separate place for supported data workflows. Capacity, supported interfaces and access details should be checked against the live product rather than inferred from a generic cloud label.

OpenWeb's Cloud Manager guides resellers through service type, operating system or application, available plan and billing term. Stock is refreshed regularly because provider availability changes. Hourly, monthly and annual choices appear only where the selected product supports them.

Keep the running cost visible

Cloud services are billed independently from the ordinary monthly renewal calculation. The initial wallet charge and the selected recurring interval are shown in the Cloud journey. An hourly service should be budgeted for as ongoing consumption, not mistaken for a once-off purchase.

Use the service toolbox for supported power, console and connection actions. Destroying an instance is permanent and does not refund unused monthly or annual time. Keep a separate backup and verify recovery before deleting a production server.

For clients who only need a website and email, cPanel hosting may be the simpler fit. Reseller Hosting adds scoped package and account management, while a VPS gives the client more operating-system responsibility. Choose the operational model before choosing the biggest specification.
