Uncapped LTE in South Africa: what rising mobile data demand means for your clients
More devices, more video calls, more streaming: mobile connectivity is becoming a larger part of the everyday business toolkit. For a reseller, the opportunity is not simply to sell more gigabytes. It is to recommend a connection that fits the way a client actually works.

The news behind the opportunity
In its 16 March 2026 results announcement, MTN reported 27% growth in group data traffic during 2025 and average monthly usage of 12.5GB per data customer, up from 10.8GB. These figures describe MTN Group across its markets, not South Africa alone and not the performance of an individual OpenWeb SIM.
Our interpretation: a connectivity conversation should start with the client's applications, busy hours and mobility requirements, rather than a headline speed alone.
Choose uncapped LTE by workload, not just the label
An uncapped LTE plan can suit clients who need ongoing access without a hard data stop. Always compare the advertised speed and the plan's fair usage policy. Uncapped does not mean every package offers the same full-speed allowance or that radio conditions never affect throughput.
MTN Mobile (GSM) and MTN Fixed 5G are separate product families. Check the current plan's coverage, SIM requirements, compatible device rules and any location restrictions before ordering. Do not assume a Mobile SIM is a Fixed SIM.
Turn network data into a better client experience
OpenWeb resellers can review MTN Mobile usage in Active Services, including available monthly history and manually synced daily readings from Masterfile. Missing readings are shown as missing, not converted into reassuring but inaccurate zeroes.
New qualifying MTN Mobile orders include the free Latency Reducer profile until further notice. It prioritises streaming, gaming and business protocols. Performance still depends on coverage, congestion, device capability and the destination network; it is not a guarantee of a particular ping or download speed.
